Acer G7700 Predator

Acer G7700 (a.k.a Acer Predator), it's out of mind. Blow any amount of cash for a desktop computer, what a nut. But, why acer so confidence offers their new PC Gaming on high price? What does it has?

This behemoth of machine is by no means just a metaphorical statement. When we received the Predator, carrying the box itself into our test lab was a muscle building endeavour. It took two of us to lift the thing out of the box, and I think I almost broke my back. That being said, it’s probably made from the same metal as Wolverine’s claws. Okay jokes aside, the Predator can withstand quite a massive beating (not that you’ll want to move it around anyways). The design of the casing is noteworthy as not only does it look pretty cool, it is ergonomic friendly. At the top, a panel comprising of four USB2.0 slots and audio-out and microphone jacks are easily accessible at seating level, so you don’t have to bend down to slot a thumb drive or a pair of headphones. Also, a big power button is located not far from the panel for easy access. Moving down to the front side, Acer placed a lid that can be lifted up, revealing a few nifty components. First, we have two 5.25” drive bays that has claw-like doors, which look something out of from Transformers. Also, you can opt to get a Blu-Ray drive, though that will up the cost quite a bit. Below that lies the multi-card reader, which encompasses 14 different types altogether. Now the next thing below the card reader is something worth shouting about.

Acer has included an EasySwap HDD cage, which is found behind the illuminated door right at the bottom. Inside are four slots where four hard drives can be stored in. You can easily take them out and swap them with other hard disks, and better yet, when RAID is enabled, you can take out the hard disks without having to restart the comp. Very useful indeed. The magic doesn’t stop there. Within the Herculean casing, there are multiple fans and brackets that provide efficient cooling and easy handling of hardware. Acer has put in a liquid cooling solution for the CPU, which has liquid constantly circulating through a huge heatsink mounted at the rear that is attached with a similar size fan, so there should be adequate ventilation inside as well.

On to its core components, The Predator runs on an Intel Q9450 Core 2 Quad processor, which has a clockspeed of 2.66GHz, a 12MB L2 cache, and an FSB of 1,333MHz. There are two sticks of 2GB Transcend AXE DDR2-1066 CL5 memory modules, totalling to 4GB of RAM. Now the board actually supports a maximum of 8GB. But you’re thinking there’s no point of upgrading right? Wrong. Acer actually bundles the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, so 8GB system memory is indeed possible. That being said, you need to make sure that your applications can run on a 64-bit OS. For storage, you get two 320GB Western Digital Caviar Blue hard disks that have an 8MB cache and a speed of 7,200 RPM; pretty decent for your gaming needs. Now what’s a gaming rig without an uber graphics card? The Geforce 9800GTX comes with the Aspire G7700, with clockspeeds of 675MHz and 1,100MHz for the GPU and GDDR3 memory respectively. Don’t be mistaken however, as this is not the 55nm 9800GTX+ that NVIDIA released a while ago, which I think they should have put instead since there is more headroom for overclocking, higher speeds, and support for newer technologies. Speaking of SLI, the motherboard inside is an nForce 780i board, which supports tri-SLI, and you also get a bunch of SLI ribbons in the box. As we can see from the details of the specs, this is a pretty awesome setup.

Now the computer tower didn’t come alone. Acer bundles a Logitech G11 keyboard and a G5 mouse, which are both designed especially for gamers. You get quite a number of extra buttons on the keyboard for different macro functions while the mouse comes with additional weights to give you that extra leverage for fast FPS games. Drivers are provided so you can configure settings for the keyboard and mouse, and allocate functions and what not. Also, we received a 24” LCD dubbed the G24. It has a 2ms response rate, high contrast ratio and a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 for full HD viewing.

So does it deliver? Let’s check the scores. On PCMark Vantage, the overall score was 5,798, which is pretty high among the motherboard scores we’ve got considering its specs are lower than our benchmark equipment save for our graphics card. For the memory, gaming and HDD suites, Vantage produced figures of 4,877, 4,705 and 4,490 respectively. All in all, the performance is pretty good.

LAMB OF GOD will release their fifth studio album WRATH, on February 24th, 2009. The record will be released in North America by Epic and will be the first release with their new label Roadrunner, outside of North America. WRATH is produced by Josh Wilbur and was recorded in studios in New York, Virginia, and New Hampshire.

LAMB OF GOD finished the touring cycle on the Grammy nominated album Sacrament at the end of 2007. The two-year trek was documented in the now certified Gold DVD Walk with Me in Hell and culminated with the band headlining arenas across the US last December.

The band has taken the entirety of 2008 off the road to focus on the writing process for WRATH.

"This album is going to surprise a lot of people," comments drummer Chris Adler. "Typically bands that get to where we are in our career begin to slack off, smell the roses and regurgitate. We chose a different path. No one wants to hear another band member hyping a new record. WRATH needs no hype. We have topped ourselves and on February 24th you will feel it."

As always, LAMB OF GOD will embark on an extensive tour that will cover the globe. As previously announced, the band will be supporting Metallica on the December leg of their tour. The first leg of the WRATH world tour will start in Finland on February 6th and will encompass dates in the UK, Australia, and Japan.

They'll be in indonesia, tennis indoor senayan on 9th March 2009. Just be there, and bang your head off!

Italian hard rock band LACUNA COIL, which offers the dual vocals of male singer Andrea Ferro and female vocalist Cristina Scabbia, recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the group's new album, "Shallow Life", tentatively due in April via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded in September/October at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California with producer Don Gilmore, who has previously worked with LINKIN PARK, TRAPT, AVRIL LAVIGNE, PEARL JAM, TRUST COMPANY and DURAN DURAN.

"It's definitely us, but the energy is completed different and the whole album feels more 'rock,'" stated Scabbia." I think that's because, as an artist, you travel a lot and you listen to the radio and you're exposed to all these different styles that rub off on you. To me, this is the perfect mixture between our old European sound and something more modern." She added, "Some of it's very heavy. The most amazing this is, we've been able to improve everything about LACUNA COIL without taking away anything good or doing something that doesn't belong."

Regarding the band's collaboration with Gilmore, Cristina said, "He helped us all find our strengths and work with them to be even better. Sometimes when you're used to something, you get stuck in your own process and you don't see the big picture. So when someone from the outside comes in, they can give you a completely different opinion that you don't have because you're alwys stuck in there."

"Shallow Life" will be LACUNA COIL's first concept album as all the songs address superficiality and the discontent and unhappiness it can cause. "It's more against the superficial lifestyle in general, but not regarding celebrities," singer Andrea Ferro previously told Rock Sound magazine. "You can talk about celebrities, but you can also talk about everyday people. It's more a reflection on life itself, and especially on the way you lead your life in a superficial way."

Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "I Like It", "Spellbound", "I Survive" and "I Won't Tell You".

Randy Blythe is going to sell his Grammy nomination medallion to help Myotonic Dystrophy. In case you were wondering, this makes him the man.

Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe has spoken exclusively to Metal Hammer about auctioning his Grammy nomination medallion to raise money for Myotonic Dystrophy. Randy’s auction will take place on January 28th and will last for ten days in the run up to this year’s Grammy awards. See Randy’s auction and the rock nominations for this year’s Grammy’s.

“A friend of mine has 2 sons with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal disease. He started a foundation, the Stone Circle Of Friends, and I’m auctioning it off to raise money for that. When I Heard, the first thing that popped in my mind was what Flava Flav from Public Enemy said “Who the fuck needs a goddamn Grammy anyway?” I didn’t care. This way it’s doing something good.”

Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has announced that he plans to enter the recording studio later this year, to record his first solo album. He claims that he has written around fourty to fifty songs so far and is choosing which he wants to be featured on the record.

Corey Taylor states: "It's something that I'd like to do purely for myself. It's something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else… In both SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR I'm slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want."

I think it will be suck and so fckin lame. Stop doing sh*t, corey. Just play your best for Slipknot.

Michael Heart, a songwriter and singer who wrote and composed this song in January 2009. This song tells us about how suffer people of gaza today, but they still never give up, and never go down. When i heard this song for first time, i felt like kicked right in the face. Coz, sometimes when trouble comes around, i just give up without a fight. But they in gaza, when everyday is hell, fighting for their life, trying to survive, just asking help to Allah, their and my only god! Keep fighting my brothers and sisters. God knows who is right!

Click here to download the song. I got the song from michael's official site.

My respect for Michael.

WE WILL NOT GO DOWN (Song for Gaza)
(Composed by Michael Heart)
Copyright 2009

A blinding flash of white light
Lit up the sky over Gaza tonight
People running for cover
Not knowing whether they’re dead or alive

They came with their tanks and their planes
With ravaging fiery flames
And nothing remains
Just a voice rising up in the smoky haze

We will not go down
In the night, without a fight
You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools
But our spirit will never die
We will not go down
In Gaza tonight

Women and children alike
Murdered and massacred night after night
While the so-called leaders of countries afar
Debated on who’s wrong or right

But their powerless words were in vain
And the bombs fell down like acid rain
But through the tears and the blood and the pain
You can still hear that voice through the smoky haze

We will not go down
In the night, without a fight
You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools
But our spirit will never die
We will not go down
In Gaza tonight

I just got this shit about 2 weeks ago. Damn, it's so awesome. It's all about sorrow, darkness, satan, anger, and loneliness. This is a concept album, based on the life of infamous 15th century French nobleman, Gilles De Rais, who fought alongside Joan of Arcand accumulated great wealth before becoming a serial killer, sexual deviant and Satanist. The title of the album derives from a valediction vocalist Dani filth once used to sign a letter.
There're 13 track which typically COF's sound, with orchestra and choir. Some track are started with narration.
I love all the track, but i'm listening to The death of love, lil bit sound like Nymphetamine

Taskbar

The Windows Taskbar has seen its most significant revision since its introduction in Windows 95. The taskbar is 10 pixels taller than in Windows Vista to accommodate a new larger default icon size, though a smaller taskbar size is available. Running applications are denoted by a border frame around the icon, while other applications can also be shown as shortcuts. Within this border, a color effect (dependent on the predominant RGB value of the icon) that follows the mouse also indicates the opened status of the application.

Start button and menu
The start orb introduced in Windows Vista exists entirely inside the taskbar, and has a fade-in highlight effect when the user moves their mouse over it. The start menu itself is largely unchanged from Windows Vista, but does contain new options to provide direct access to Windows Explorer's Libraries, as well as to the new "Devices and Printers" page in the Control Panel. The classic single-column start menu is no longer available.

Pinned applications
The features of the Quick Launch toolbar have been integrated into the Windows 7 taskbar. The Windows 7 taskbar is more application-oriented than window-oriented. Applications can now be pinned to the taskbar allowing the user instant access to the applications they commonly use. There are a few ways to pin applications to the taskbar. One can drag and drop the icon onto the taskbar. The other way to do so is by right-clicking the application’s icon and pinning the icon to the taskbar.
Enhanced preview pane
The preview pane which was introduced in Windows Vista has been expanded to not only preview the windows opened by the application in a small-sized thumbnail view, but to also interact with the preview pane. The user can close any windows opened by clicking the X on the corresponding preview pane. The name of the window is also shown in the preview pane. Another new feature added is the ability to get a "peek" of the window by hovering over the preview pane. Peeking brings up only the window which the mouse hovers within the preview panes and turns any other windows on the desktop into glass. This also works for tabs in Internet Explorer; individual tabs may be peeked at in the preview pane. In addition to these features, the preview pane has decreased the amount of times a user has to click to get to basic features by integrating them into the preview pane themselves. For example, if Windows Media Player is opened and the mouse is hovering on the application icon, the preview pane will allow the user the ability to Play, Stop, and Play Next/Previous track without having to actually open Windows Media Player.
Jump List
These are menu options available from right-clicking any of the icons on the taskbar. Each application will have unique jump lists which will correspond to the features unique to the application whether it be recent files opened or common tasks. For example, a Microsoft Word jump list might display all the recent documents opened. The Windows Media Player jump list, for example, displays recently played tracks and playlists that have been played. Internet Explorer's jump bar displays recent history of websites. Windows Live Messenger's jump list displays select common tasks such as instant messaging, signing off, and changing online status.
Notification area
The notification area has been redesigned; the standard Volume, Network, Battery and Security Center status icons (now renamed "Action") are still present, but no other application icons are shown unless the user has chosen for them to be shown. A new "Notification Area Icons" control panel has been added which replaces the "Customize Notification Icons" dialog box in the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window first introduced in Windows XP. In addition to being able to configure whether the application icons are shown, the ability to hide each application's notification balloons has been added. The user can then view the notifications at a later time.
A triangle to the left of the visible notification icons displays the hidden notification icons to the user. Unlike Windows Vista and Windows XP, the hidden icons are displayed in a window above the taskbar, instead of on the taskbar. Icons can be dragged between this window and the notification area.
Show Desktop
In past versions of Windows, the taskbar ended with the notification area on the right side. However there is now a shortcut in order to display the desktop which shows the desktop and gadgets by making all windows into glass. This is a replacement of the Show Desktop shortcut in the QuickLaunch bar in previous versions of Windows. This new shortcut exhibits the same features used by the preview pane except this applies it to all windows.

Windows 7 retains the Windows Aero user interface and visual style first introduced with Windows Vista, but many areas have seen enhancements. If looked at closely, the glass window borders in Windows 7 have a different blending style, making the colors behind them more saturated.

Desktop

Desktop Slideshow

Windows Explorer also includes a desktop slideshow that changes the desktop background in a designated amount of time.

Windows Explorer
Libraries
Windows Explorer in Windows 7 presents Libraries for different file types (documents, music, pictures, videos etc). Libraries are virtual folders that aggregate content from various locations - including shared folders on networked systems - and present them in a unified view. Libraries are accessible from the Start menu, Windows Explorer as well as the Open File and Save File dialogs. Searching in a library automatically federates the query to the remote systems, in addition to searching on the local system, so that files on the remote systems are also scoped by the search. Unlike search folders in Windows Vista, Libraries are backed by a physical location which allows files to be saved in the Libraries. Such files are transparently saved in the backing physical folder.
Federated search
Windows Explorer also supports federating search to external data sources, such as custom databases or web services, that are exposed over the web and described via an OpenSearch definition. The federated location description (called a Search Connector) is provided as a .osdx file. Once installed, the data source becomes queryable directly from Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer features, such as previews and thumbnails, work with the results of a federated search as well.

Windows 7, the next generation?

Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) is the next release of Microsoft Windows, an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, Tablet PCs, and media center PCs.[2]

Microsoft stated in 2007 that it is planning Windows 7 development for a three-year time frame starting after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista, but that the final release date will be determined by product quality.[3]

Unlike its predecessor, Windows 7 is intended to be an incremental upgrade with the goal of being fully compatible with existing device drivers, applications, and hardware.[4] Presentations given by the company in 2008 have focused on multi-touch support, a redesigned Windows Shell with a new taskbar, a home networking system called HomeGroup,[5] and performance improvements. Some applications that have been included with prior releases of Microsoft Windows, most notably Windows Mail, Windows Calendar, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery, are no longer included with the operating system; they are instead offered separately as part of the Windows Live Essentials suite.
